Now Hiring: Full-Time Deputy Chief​

Boothbay Region Ambulance Service (BRAS) is seeking a full-time Deputy Chief to join our team serving Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Southport, and the surrounding island communities.

BRAS staffs two ambulances around the clock and provides emergency response and interfacility transport services. Our crews serve a close-knit, year-round community while responding to the increased activity and variety that comes with Maine's coastal tourism season.

Position Overview
The Deputy Chief is a working operational leader who supports the EMS Chief in the day-to-day management of BRAS. The position combines regular frontline Paramedic duties with personnel supervision, operational leadership, administrative responsibilities, and service improvement.

The Deputy Chief serves as second in command and assumes the authority and responsibilities of the EMS Chief when formally designated or when the EMS Chief is unavailable. The successful candidate will model professionalism, sound clinical judgment, accountability, and collaborative leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Paramedic-level patient care and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls

• Provide on-duty leadership and support crews with clinical, personnel, and operational concerns

• Supervise personnel fairly and consistently and assist with employee evaluations, coaching, onboarding, and development

• Monitor staffing, vehicles, equipment, medications, supplies, communications, and station readiness

• Coordinate quality assurance and quality improvement activities with the EMS Chief and Medical Director

• Assist with policy development, planning, purchasing, budgeting, grants, training, compliance, and other assigned programs

• Coordinate resources during significant incidents and work closely with regional public-safety and healthcare partners

Qualifications

• At least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent

• Current, unrestricted Maine Paramedic license

• Current BLS CPR, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, PIFT and all other credentials required for the position

• At least four years of progressively responsible EMS experience, including supervisory, crew-leadership, field-training, or comparable leadership experience; an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered

• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, professionalism, organization, and discretion

• Ability to lead calmly, address performance concerns directly, manage competing priorities, and maintain appropriate documentation

• Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements of the position

Preferred Experience
Experience with personnel supervision, scheduling, employee evaluation, training, QA/QI, compliance, or EMS program management is preferred. Instructor, field training officer, incident command, or other relevant leadership credentials are also desirable.

Schedule

• Full-time position of 48 hours per week

• Regular frontline ambulance assignment combined with supervisory and administrative responsibilities

• Shift schedule and rotation discussed during the interview process

• Additional administrative and emergency-response duties as required

• Paramedic hourly wage of $32–$35 per hour, based on qualifications and experience, plus an additional Deputy Chief stipend
